Here at St. John Catholic School our technology goal is not just to prepare our students for the 21st century, but also to give them the tools necessary to excel above the competition. The infrastructure in place for students surpasses other local schools and even rivals those of corporations in the Bay Area. Our goal is to integrate technology as a tool to help students succeed. Just like paper and pencil, we believe technology is a tool, not a substitute, for communication and learning.
Grades TK & Kindergarten
In TK – Kindergarten Grade classrooms have class sets of iPads for student use. These iPads are integrated into lessons and assignments taught in the classroom on a regular basis. Students are added to our domain (@sjcsedu.org), which gives them access to their own email account, calendar, address book, online storage drive (Google drive), and Productive Apps (Google Docs, Sheets, Presentations, etc.). Teachers can assign, collect, and grade assignments online, which not only saves time but conserves paper and other consumable resources as well. This model allows students to save their assignments, books, and anything else they do on the iPad. Each student's profile is be backed up to allow for every student to store their personal work so they may access it from any device.
First - Fifth Grades
Beginning in 1st grade we have a one-to-one Chromebook program, which allows every student to check out Chromebook for the entire school year. Our 5th grade classroom is branded as a Google Friendly/Paper-less Classroom. This means that students attempt to use as little paper as possible by completing assignments online via Google Classroom and even turning those assignments in over the internet.
Middle School
In 6th, 7th & 8th grades we have a one-to-one Chromebook program, which will allow every student to check out a Chromebook for the entire school year. As businesses in the Bay Area use computers as the foundation for productivity, our goal is to use the Chromebook as the foundation for all work done in 6th, 7th and 8th grades. This, along with the student profiles on our domain, will allow for increased productivity as well as collaboration between teacher and student, and between the students themselves.
We at St. John Catholic School look forward to working with staff, students, and parents to make technology a tool to build lifelong learners who are excel in the tools of their generation to prepare for college and career readiness.
